Research Symposium (RS)
Research Symposium is another important core attributes to be performed next after the completion of Proposal Defense session during the research programme. One needs to present his/her interim findings from his/her research through a Seminar paper presented via Poster in Symposium which will be assessed again by two panels of examiner appointed from the respective academicians recommended by the supervisor with the consent from the Faculty’s Committee of Postgraduate Studies. The guidelines towards the commencement of the session are outlined as stated:
Procedures
1. Announcement* of Research Symposium. (PIC: Secretariat)
*Student intake of Semester 1 Session 2020/2021 onwards are COMPULSORY to attend the Research Symposium. For student intake before Semester 1 Session 2020/2021 are OPTIONAL to attend the Research Symposium. The Secretariat will also have the right to
MANDATE students to attend the Research Symposium Presentation under certain circumstances.
2. Preparation of Seminar paper and Presentation shall follow the criteria below: (PIC: Student)
The Seminar paper prepared shall use the format of Journal of Advanced Mechanical Engineering Applications (JAMEA)
The seminar paper must be in a form of RESULT (finding) from a particular study conducted either it is a result from one of the study or the overall findings from the related study performed.
A journal/paper/article that is about to/in progress of/already published is also welcomed.
A REVIEW or an OVERVIEW type of seminar paper is strictly PROHIBITED.

3. Submit; (PIC: Student)
- The Seminar paper to Examiners/Reviewers by uploading the paper into JAMEA platform provided (online)
The Presentation via Poster to Examiners/Reviewers by hand/online through email before the presentation taking place.

4. Notification of Research Symposium Schedule will be issued to student, supervisor and examiners c/w Nomination letters and Assessment form to Examiners. (PIC: Secretariat)
5. The Symposium will be performed according to schedule***** provided by the Department of Postgraduate Studies. (PIC: Student, Examiners******)

6. Notification of Result and Improvement will be acknowledged to student and supervisor via email. (PIC: Secretariat)
7. Correction of the Seminar paper is required according to comments by the examiners. The corrected paper has to be resubmitted to the Secretariat. (PIC: Student)
8. Ready for next session; Pre-Viva*******
*******Student is ONLY allowed to undergo the Pre-viva presentation after successfully passed his/her Research Symposium (RS).

The assessment form of Research Symposium Report and Presentation could be obtained by contacting the Postgraduate (PG) Research Panel/Secretariat directly. Student should score a minimum of 65% and above marks (passing marks) to obtain a "Satisfactory" grade in order to progress into Pre-Viva. If student’s mark is below 65%, he/she is required to submit again the improved report with or without representation of his/her Symposium with a consent from both panels which a new mark will be endorsed to enable the students to progress into Pre-Viva accordingly.
