Pre-Viva (PV)

Pre-Viva session is the last core attributes to be performed before the actual Viva voce taking place. The session is so-called the last preparation to finalize everything and the expected completion of the thesis is about at least 99%. One needs to present his/her overall findings from his/her research through a Pre-Viva session presented with the 99% completion of the thesis in front of the two panels of examiners appointed from the respective academicians recommended by the supervisor with the consent from the Faculty’s Committee of Postgraduate Studies. The guidelines towards the commencement of the session are outlined as stated:

Procedure

  1. Application for Pre-Viva presentation. (PIC: Student) Download the FORM*.

  1. Fill up the FORM (Section 1 only). (PIC: Student)

  2. Submit the FORM with thesis report (99% complete according to regulation set by the Center of Graduate Studies, UTHM) to Faculty’s Postgraduate office by hand/online via email (To: fkmp.ps@uthm.edu.my & cc: rosmaidi@uthm.edu.my) according to designated format as shown below: (PIC: Supervisor)

**Supervisors have a freedom to choose preferable panels related to their fields and are free to fix the date and time after mutual agreement with the panels.

  2. Notification of Approval will be issued to student, supervisor and examiners c/w Nomination letter to Examiners via email and official letter. (PIC: Secretariat)

             **The application FORM will be reused as a form of assessment during the Pre-Viva session.

            ***Student is ONLY allowed to undergo their Viva Voce (oral examination) after successfully passed his/her Research Methodology (RM) course,                                    Proposal Defense (PD), Research Symposium (Student intake of Semester 1 Session 2020/2021 onwards ONLY) and Pre-Viva (PV) with a consent                            from the University’s Senate.

The assessment form of Pre-Viva Report and Presentation could be obtained by contacting directly the Postgraduate (PG) Research Panel/Secretariat. ​Student should score a minimum level of 4 to obtain a “Satisfactory work with a substantial correction” without having to represent his/her Pre-Viva in order to progress into Viva Voce. If student’s mark is below level 4 grade, he/she is required to submit again the improved report with or without representation of his/her Pre-Viva with a consent from both panels which a new mark will be endorsed to enable the students to progress into Viva Voce accordingly.
