Post-Graduate Outcome-Based Education

2025 - 2026

All postgraduate programmes at the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (FKMP), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) have adopted the Outcome Based Education (OBE) since the programme offered.

Generally, OBE is an internationally practised educational model that is focused on the achievement of student outcomes and the implementation of the corrective measures to overcome deficiencies in curriculum, teaching and learning etc. Following the OBE, the Programme Educational Objectives (PEO) of each programme offered are developed in the consultation with all major stakeholders. This signifies that all postgraduate programmes offered in UTHM are able to meet current demands of challenging and globalized industries.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

For Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, the PEOs are:

  1. Contribute to the development knowledge through new research and novelty, consultation, writing and high quality of publication. (Knowledge and Practical Skill)
  2. Effective communication and excellent leadership as a project leader in organization. (Soft Skill)
  3. High commitment in self-learning and continuous professional development. (Soft Skill).

For Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (by Research), the PEOs are:

  1. Contribute to the development knowledge through new research, consultation, writing and high quality of publication. (Knowledge and Practical Skill)
  2. Effective communication and excellent leadership as a project leader in organization. (Soft Skill)
  3. High commitment in self-learning and continuous professional development (Soft Skill).

For Master of Mechanical Engineering (MDM), the PEOs are:

  1. Contribute to the development knowledge through research, consultation, writing and quality publication. (Knowledge and Practical Skill)
  2. Effective communication and excellent leadership as a project leader in organization. (Soft Skill)
  3. High commitment in self-learning and continuous professional development. (Soft Skill)

For Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Engineering (MDL), the PEOs are:

  1. Expert and competent in sustainable energy engineering science field.
  2. Accomplish sustainable energy engineering project development and applications in related fields.
  3. Facilitate knowledge and technology transfer in sustainable energy engineering to the community professionally.

For Master of Science in Materials Engineering by Mix-Mode (CDB), the PEOs are:

  1. Contribute to the development of knowledge through research, consultation, writing and publication.
  2. Successfully accomplish developmental project especially in material engineering applications, and related fields.
  3. Ability to transfer knowledge and technology to the community at large, effectively and ethically.

For Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering by Mix-Mode (CDP), the PEOs are:

  1. Contribute to the development of knowledge through research, consultation, writing and publication.
  2. Successfully accomplish developmental project especially in manufacturing engineering applications, and related fields.
  3. Ability to transfer knowledge and technology to the community at large, effectively and ethically

Each programme should have Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs) that describe what students are expected to know and be able to attain upon graduation. The Department of Postgraduate Studies is adopting the PLOs as stated by MQA Manual. The PLOs are designed to produce graduates who are well-prepared to achieve the PEOs 3-5 years after they have graduated. Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are the expected outcomes of each course that describes what students are expected to know and be able to perform upon completion of a specific course. Each course has CLOs, which are explicitly mapping to specific PLOs. Each CLO contributes to the attainment of PLO through the curriculum design, course delivery and various measurement and assessment tools that are most appropriate to achieve that CLO.
